During our ROTC session, we were simply told to sit down while the officers prepared everything. There were no drills, no movement just a quiet afternoon under the sun. I didn’t expect anything special to happen that day, but then I noticed someone looking at me from a distance. He wasn’t just anyone he was one of the ROTC medics. I didn’t know his name then, but I could feel his eyes on me, soft and curious, as if he was trying to memorize my face. He never took my things, never tried to approach me directly, but there was something about the way he observed me calm, gentle, like he was trying to understand me without saying a word. I didn’t think much of it at first.
We were all busy, and I didn’t even imagine that he would ever talk to me. But that afternoon, something unexpected happened. My phone buzzed. A message from an unfamiliar name. He asked for the picture we took together as a group casual, simple, nothing special on the surface. I didn’t even realize it was him. I had no idea the name on the screen belonged to the quiet medic who had been watching me earlier. From that small message, everything slowly began. Our conversation didn’t stop with that picture. One message turned into two, then into long conversations that lasted until midnight. He wasn’t loud or flirtatious; instead, he talked to me with sincerity, with a softness that made me feel seen in a way no one else had ever made me feel. Every chat revealed a part of him his humor, his kindness, the gentle way he cared about everything I said.
Days passed, and our chats became part of my routine something I looked forward to, something that made my day feel lighter. And somewhere in between the late-night conversations, the good mornings, and the quiet comfort of knowing he was always there… my heart slowly started to fall for him. He confessed in the same honest way he talked to me no big speeches, no dramatic gestures, just pure sincerity. And when I said yes, it felt like everything made sense. The quiet stares, the message he sent, the long conversations that changed everything all of it led to us. I never expected that a simple afternoon in ROTC, with us just sitting and waiting, would be the beginning of something so deep and emotional… but that day gave me him. And that’s something I’ll never forget.
